“What do you hang on the walls of your mind?” – Eve Arnold

How many people do you know have seen whales twice in one year and at two different places? Well you do now. That would be me. Last year I saw whales twice in one year. The first time was when we took our cruise to Alaska last July. We took a nature boat cruise along the Sitka Sound. We spent that day cruising the sound looking at bald eagles and sea otters. The greatest part of that ride was when we saw a humpback whale out in the wild breaching the water. Seeing this majestic animal go to the surface was an amazing sight. The other time is when the family and I took a trip to SeaWorld last winter. We didn’t have to fly across the United States to see the whales there. Just a drive down to Florida and taking about an hour to get parked that day.

One thing I have been trying to do lately is get better with using the settings on my camera. I dislike one thing about my camera. When I turn it off, all of the settings reset. I am still working on how to get that right. One thing I did get right was to cut on continuous focus while capturing photos of moving objects. The Orca’s at Seaworld don’t really stand still. The place where they preform is called the Orca Stadium, and that place was packed when we went. In fact, SeaWorld was full of people the day we went. We sat in an area called the splash zone. I’m sure that meant there was a chance that you could get wet. I got a little nervous with having my camera out, but I wanted to get some good shots. I had my bag ready. I could put it back in a hurry. That was in case the splash zone lived up to its name. Fortunately, it didn’t. I was able to capture some great shots of the Orca’s. They performed in front of us.
