Frosty Walk

“Men can starve from a lack of self-realization as much as they can from a lack of bread.” – Richard Wright

Here we are at the tail end of this nasty winter storm that just came through my area. A lot of people where I live at are complaining about how it wasn’t that bad. Imagine, complaining about not losing power. People amaze me. Since when do we complain about not experiencing the worst case scenario? People in my city are upset that they prepared for the worst, and the worst didn’t come. It’s like a tornado comes through your area, and you are angry it didn’t destroy your house. I teach weather to my 5th graders. The little amount of it that they learn is already complicated. So many factors have to be in place for a weather event to occur. In Charlotte, we were very fortunate that it wasn’t the worst case scenario. In fact, we should be grateful. We are not one of half a million people in the United States who do not have power. Think about not having power, and the it’s 13 degrees outside. I am glad we didn’t get the half inch or more of ice projected. We got a quarter inch instead. It doesn’t take much ice to do a lot of damage. Thankfully we didn’t get that much in the end.

The ice was everywhere on Sunday. I decided to take my camera out for a little bit. I wanted to capture the moment. My wife and I took a walk around our neighborhood enjoying the beauty of it all. All of these photos I captured I used a lens from a company called Retropia. I love this lens because it is lightweight. This makes it perfect to bring with me while on a walk. I also love that it is made from recycled disposable camera lenses. When I capture photos with it, it looks like the shot was captured with a film camera. It has various imperfections in the shot that give it a retro look. I also like how the lens doesn’t need to be focused. Just like an old school disposable camera, all you have to do is point and shoot. I love the vibe that it gives off with these photos that I took around my neighborhood.
