“The power to question is the basis of all human progress.” – Indira Gandhi

I don’t think we ask why enough as a society anymore. Too many of us are content accepting the way things are. We want people to be critical thinkers, but only if that critical thinking agrees with us. In the world of social media, only our own opinions matter. We only want to hear people thinking like we think. Social media companies have done a great job making sure we don’t hear any other views. If we hear other view points in a post shared with us, we end up hearing the counterpoints to it. Even when we hear other views, we hear our own views drown them out. We have to be a society that asks ourselves, does this sound right? There are many events that have happened in recent days that have caused me to ask, does this sound right? If we do not ask, does this sound right, we will not truly understand. We will not truly grasp what is going on.

A question a lot of the homes being torn down in my neighborhood over the last few years. Something that is a common sight in Charlotte is older homes being torn down. When someone buys property in Charlotte, they usually are not after the house. They want the land the house sits on top of. Many single-home properties end up being subdivided into 2 or more homes on the same lot. Homes and buildings are being torn down all over the city. I captured these photos last July. A home across the street from us was torn down. This moment frozen in time in this photo shows the devastating part of change. We see people’s homes being torn down, and the structure that helps memories is lost. Change is good, but don’t forget what change costs. I captured these photos as a reminder of what was there before. Photography is not only you capturing good memories, but also bad ones as well.

This is my last set from these series. Check out the other posts I made about it below.
