“Never go to Alaska as a young man because you’ll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live.” — John Muir

A highlight of our trip to Alaska last summer was all of the walking we did. The days we were off ship, we easily walked 13,000 steps a day. When we visited Ketchikan, Alaska my watched tracked 16,000 steps. We moved a lot during our visit. We didn’t have any specific planned that day. Our goal was to explore the town as much as we could. Ketchikan is another famous city in Alaska that can only be accessed by plane or boat. No roads lead to there. The name of the city is derived from a Tlingit phrase meaning “the Thundering Wings of an Eagle”. It is one of the wettest places in the U.S., with over 150 inches of rain annually. Since it was one of this wet days there, I left my camera on the ship. All of the photos I capture there wee with my phone or my GoPro. We had a great time exploring the city that day. We had some great coffee, salmon burgers, and saw some pretty cool places.

When we got back to the ship, we were tired. We took a break for a little bit our room. Then went downstairs to see if there were any pier runners that day. If you haven’t been in a cruise before, pier runners are people who are late getting back to the boat. Cruise ships will leave you if you are late. It is fun to see if someone has to sprint to get back. We didn’t see any one running back on this day. We did see one of the most beautiful sunsets of the trip. Theses were some of my favorite photos that I captured while in Alaska. I don’t think these shots do this scene justice, but I tried. This was a great ending to an amazing day.
