“The whole secret of life is to be interested in one thing profoundly and in a thousand things well.” – Horace Walpole

The more attention you get, the more important you are. That’s what we think. We fall for the trap thinking the loudest people in the room are the most important. The loud ones typically take up most of the airwaves with what they have to say. That doesn’t mean what they have to say isn’t important. It might not be the most important thought in the room. We often overlook those who work behind the scenes. They ensure the loudest voices have a platform. Those who are more invisible have a voice too. We have to give them a space to share what they have to say. We can’t allow those with the loudest voices and rolls to take all of the space. We have to allow for those who are quieter to fill the air.

Last month, Charlotte experienced on of the biggest snow storms in decades. We got over a foot of snow. If you don’t live in the Southern United States, this amount is about 4 times more than usual. When the snow hit, it was so amazing how silent it was outside. The normal sounds of the city were gone. The made an impact with its silence. This winter brought about two snow storms. I knew it was going to be cold. This year, the cold brought all forms of winter precipitation with it. From sleet to snow, we saw it all this winter. Both events closed schools for multiple days. Both events caused crazy runs at the grocery store. Those weeks were off the chain. One thing I did get to enjoy during this time was my photography. Could have I driven somewhere during that time, yes, but I didn’t want to. I watched enough people get stuck in the snow. They were right in front of my house. I knew that it wasn’t worth it. Two of my vehicles would have done just fine in the snow. However, I didn’t want a fateful encounter with someone who shouldn’t be driving their car in the snow. Instead, I took walks around my neighborhood, and I brought my camera with me. I captured photos of the snow filled landscapes because who knows when it will snow like this again.
