After the Event

“Surprise is the greatest gift which life can grant us.” – Boris Pasternak

Have you ever lived through something that it consumed for several hours? This moment that was all you could think about while it happened. This one moment that blocked everything else out while it passed. It was as if the the rest of the world had stopped. Nothing else mattered. This moment wasn’t a surprise because you knew it was coming. You spent days getting ready for it, and then the moment came and passed. Looking back it seemed like that was all that was happening was that moment. After the moment consumes you, then it passes. You look back and see the aftermath of it, and remember how you felt when it was happening. Depending on the moment you are either filled with joy or sadness. What I just described could be a variety of things. It could be a lose or a gain. Those moments are why I take so many photos. My photography is the way I remember what happened. When I look back I remember the moment and emotions.

This year, where I live in Charlotte, North Carolina experienced a lot of winter weather. We had an ice storm one week, and then a snow storm the next. I saw more winter weather in two weeks than I had seen in the last 5 years. It was fun while it lasted. I prepared for the crazy winter weather. I got a generator ready, stocked up on food, and gathered reading material. I am glad I did because we were stuck at the house for a couple of days. I didn’t go driving anywhere during the snow, but I did take a few walks around my neighborhood. While I was walking I brought my camera with me to capture everything I saw. I took some photos of the snow starting to melt and everyone else getting out in it.
