“The sea has now changed from it’s natural, to river coloured water, the probable consequence of some streams falling into the bay, or into the ocean to the north of it, through the low land.” – George Vancouver

I have made it my mission over the last few years to visit as many new places as possible. In the past, we would use our vacations to visit family. Sometimes, we would go somewhere we had been before. We only visited family in the past because we lived far away from them. This was when we lived in Kentucky. When we moved to North Carolina, it was easier to visit and took less time. This opened us up to opportunities to see more of the world. In the last few years, I have visited multiple countries, see new places, and had a variety of new experiences.

Last summer, I finally got to visit America’s northern neighbor, Canada. We took a cruise around Alaska, and Victoria, Canada was our last stop. Victoria is a beautiful place. We visited there while they were having some kind of music festival. The city was packed. We took a cab that was on a bicycle to get us to the main city from the port. Our first stop was checking out Victoria’s Parliament building. This is the main government building for the legislative assembly for British Columbia. The building itself is massive, and considered a work of art. A top of the building is a gold statue of George Vancouver. Captain George Vancouver was a Royal Navy officer and explorer. He is best known for leading the Vancouver Expedition. This expedition explored and charted North America’s northwestern Pacific Coast regions. It included the coasts of what became the Canadian province of British Columbia and the U.S. states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California. The expedition also explored the Hawaiian Islands and the southwest coast of Australia. Visiting here was an amazing experience. These are the first of many photos I took of the city.
