Sunset Over the Ocean

“Everything that is made beautiful and fair and lovely is made for the eye of one who sees.” – Rumi

Have you looked at someone and said “I have prepared my whole life for this.” I’m not sure that entire statement is true for most of us, but there are moments when they arrive, we have been preparing for them for a while now. I think as a photographer I think the same thing when it comes to capturing certain moments. From practicing at home to making sure all my equipment is ready to use for a particular situation. For many photos it takes time to prepare for them. It might seem like it doesn’t because when the photo is taken it happens very quickly. It looks like all of the work happens when the shot button is pressed. When the photo is taken that is the reward for all the hard work put into taking the shot. Sometimes that might be all, but more often than not there is post work that happens as well. When someone takes a photo, don’t just assume all they did was point and click, there might be a little more to it than that.

I took this photo while we were cruising towards the Bahamas last spring break. It was our first night at sea, and I knew our room would be facing the sunset. I looked up what time sunset was happening, and I got my camera and GoPro ready to capture the moment. It was a beautiful sunset that evening, and I was happy to have the opportunity to capture it.
