You Choose the Expectations

“Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive expectations in advance of the event.” – Brian Tracy

As a teacher, the one thing that is talked about a lot is the students’ expectations. The reason for this is we want students to be in the best position to learn. Since most children don’t know how to be ready to learn, they have to be taught how to be ready. That ranges from the basics of having a pencil to following along while the teacher is showing them what to do. The teacher is the one who sets the expectations, and the teacher is the one who follows through with them. In life, we are the ones who set the expectations for things in our own personal circle. We are the ones who either hold ourselves up to those expectations, or we allow them to slide. We choose if we hold ourselves to a high standard or to a lower standard. If we hold ourselves to high expectations, we can achieve higher results.

I took these two photos last July, when my wife and I visited Durham, North Carolina on a weekend trip while our kids were away at camp. We hiked around a park near the bed and breakfast we were staying at.

What expectations do you hold for yourself?
