Seeking Perspective

“I have never met a man so ignorant that I couldn’t learn something from him.” – Galileo Galilei

We live in a society today that refuses to listen to diverse opinions. If someone feels differently about something rarely is the opportunity taken to listen to that opinion, instead the goal is either to try and prove that person wrong or mock them for having that opinion. We also try to avoid people with different opinions. Social media does a great job of keeping diverse opinions away from our feeds. It hyperfocuses on opinions similar to ours instead of showing us how people feel differently about the issues. Sometimes we avoid those with different opinions because we don’t want to be challenged with different opinions. The best way to combat this is to take a moment and listen to different opinions to just listen. It’s difficult, but we have to be willing to listen to others to bring positive change to our culture.

One way that I seek out different perspectives is by taking time to reflect and think. One way I do this is by taking bike rides through Charlotte. I try to ride as often as possible. A few weeks ago, I did just that with a bike ride through Uptown Charlotte. I stopped at Romare Bearden Park. This part features a water feature, a large field, and a great view of Uptown Charlotte. This is a great park to visit to just check out the sites and enjoy some time outside.
