“Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.” – Samuel Smiles

Last year, the family and I took a trip up to Hendersonville, North Carolina for a day filled with apple picking and enjoying the mountains. One of our last stops before heading back to Charlotte was checking out the great views at Jump Off Rock. It’s called this because of a Native American Legend. Over 300 years ago a young Cherokee Indian maiden received word that her young Indian Chief had been killed in battle, so she climbed to the edge of the rock and jumped off. Indian legend has it that on moonlit nights you can see the ghost of the maiden on Jump Off Rock.

The city and the area of Hendersonville, N.C. has been completely devastated by Hurricane Helene. It will take the region years to fully recover. Right now, efforts are being focused on supporting and finding the survivors. The North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund has been set up to raise money in order to help those hardest hits in the region.
