The Right Mindset

“The attitude is very important. Because, your behavior radiates how you feel.” – Lou Ferrigno

One thing I have learned in the last few years is that to be successful in the classroom I had to come in with the right mindset. Teaching is a demanding job mentally. While many outside of education do not understand what it takes to be a successful teacher post-2020, it is important to listen to those who are in the classrooms sharing what it’s like. To keep myself with the right mindset, I had a few practices that helped me be successful. One, I write almost every day. I do this to keep myself in a creative mindset. I also practice photography and videography as a way to express myself creatively. Two, I exercise during the week. Typically in the classroom, I’m on my feet all day, so normally I focus on strength training. Three, I have set days that I do not work at home. Those days I used it for rest and to invest in my family. Fourth, I am involved at my church. We go regularly and volunteer every other week. These are just some of the things that help me keep the right mindset.

I took these photos while I was working to take care of myself. I ride my bike at the Little Sugar Creek Greenway near Uptown Charlotte. This is one of my favorite spots to ride to because while I am there it feels like I am not even close to being in the middle of the city. The sounds of the creek drown out the sounds of the city. It’s a great spot to go to clear your mind of everything that is happening.
