Manual Capture

“All of us, at certain moments of our lives, need to take advice and to receive help from other people.” – Alexis Carrel

When it comes to getting things done, I prefer to do it myself. It’s not that I don’t work well with others, it’s just that I prefer to do it on my own. I have been focusing on improving my delegation skills in the last few years. At work, I used to just do everything myself. I used to never use another teacher’s ideas or lesson plans in my classroom. Today, I’ll use anything prepared in advance for me. I make some slight modifications along the way, but I try to just stick to the plan. While it’s true that if you want something done right you have to do it yourself, that can get exhausting. You might not have the energy to do it right anyway.

Over the last winter break, the family and I took a 11-day cruise to the Bahamas. One of our stops was in Porta Plata, Dominican Republic. Like I am on most trips, I’m up before everyone. I like to go around the deck and take photos of our destination before we disembark off the ship. I made it outside just a few minutes after sunrise. I have this one lens from my last camera. It takes really good shots. But, the automatic focus feature doesn’t work with my current camera. I decided to be bold, and capture these shots using a manual lens. I know some of you in the photography world are judging me right now. I will get over it. I had to take more time to capture these shots. In the end, they turned out pretty good with the help of this lens.

Here is a video I recorded that same day.
