“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” – Aristotle Onassis

Last April, my wife and I decided to start taking afternoon walks whenever possible. We usually go walking after dinner, and typically stay in our neighborhood. In the last few years, there has been a lot of construction and development in our area. We now have more places to walk and see. We have a couple of rules while we are out on our walks. One, we bring our phones with us, but we don’t use them. We focus primarily on walking and talking with each other about what is going on. Two, we don’t rush while we walk. We are not trying to win a race or get the walk over with. Our goal is just to get outside and get some movement in. Three, the only time we use technology on our walks is for us to document what we are doing. I will sometimes bring my camera with me to capture the different things that we see while on our walks.

While we typically walk the same stretch every day, you still never know what you are going to see. From stray cats to great sunsets. During one of our recent walks, we came across this old Chevy truck. I have no idea what year it is, maybe one of the car guys on Instagram can fill me in. I also tried to capture a photo of a light display in front of an apartment building near our house. I did the best I could, but it didn’t seem to work. All of these photos I captured I used a lens from a company called Retropia. I love this lens because it is lightweight. This makes it perfect to bring with me while on a walk. I also love that it is made from recycled disposable camera lenses. When I capture photos with it, it looks like the shot was captured with a film camera. It has various imperfections in the shot that give it a retro look. I also like how the lens doesn’t need to be focused. Just like an old school disposable camera, all you have to do is point and shoot.

Another way I like to get outside is by taking time to ride my bike through Charlotte.
A lovely way to spend time together. 😊
