Postcard from Juneau

“Blue, green, grey, white, or black; smooth, ruffled, or mountainous; that ocean is not silent.” – H. P. Lovecraft

I took my first trip to the west coast this summer. We flew out to Seattle, Washington, and then took a cruise up to Alaska. Our first stop in Alaska was Juneau. Juneau is the capitol city of the state. Juneau is the only U.S. state capital not accessible by road. The only way to get to Juneau is either by boat or plane. It’s not like you can get in the car and say, “Let’s drive to Juneau.” You have to either fly there or take a cruise. Juneau is the largest U.S. city by area. Juneau, Alaska is 3,000 square miles. While it might not have the most people, it has the most land! It rains on average, 230 days a year. When I visited Juneau I was very fortunate to visit on a day filled with sunshine. It does rain a lot in Juneau, but that doesn’t take its beauty away.

All of these photos I captured I used a lens from a company called Retropia. I love this lens because it is lightweight. This makes it perfect to bring with me while on a walk. I also love that it is made from recycled disposable camera lenses. When I capture photos with it, it looks like the shot was captured with a film camera. It has various imperfections in the shot that give it a retro look. I also like how the lens doesn’t need to be focused. Just like an old school disposable camera, all you have to do is point and shoot.
