Up Ahead

“Beauty is the lover’s gift.” – William Congreve

My calendar has been jammed packed these last few weeks. I was talking to a teacher I have been mentoring yesterday, and we were reflecting on how busy this time of the year is. From parent-teacher conferences to staying on top of all of the meetings needing to happen. When I look ahead, I know things are going to get a little smoother. It always seems like the first quarter of the school year is the busiest for me. From reestablishing work routines to making sure that I start strong for a successful year. I know that once I get past Veterans Day, things are going to be a lot better. Also, it’s my favorite time of the year. I love all things fall. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and we have some big travel plans made for next year. Looking at what’s up ahead looks good.

Last summer, the family and I took the trip of a lifetime to Alaska. We rode a cruise ship around the inside passage. One of our stops wasn’t really a stop, but we cruised by the Hubbard Glacier. The Hubbard Glacier is North America’s largest tidewater glacier, measuring 76 miles long and known for its “galloping” advance, which is unlike most receding glaciers. It is named after Gardiner Hubbard, the first president of the National Geographic Society, and can be distinguished by its towering face that is 600 feet tall at the terminal face, with 250 feet below the waterline. The best way to tell how huge this glacier is to compare it to the cruise ship that is closer to the glacier. I had my camera in my hands most of the day while we were coasting by the Hubbard Glacier. My dad let me borrow his 500 mm lens, and that’s how I was able to capture these amazing images.
