“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” – Anais Nin

Photography and life have some things in common. One of those things is perspective. In photography, perspective matters a lot. I have learned is when taking pictures of my family. When I take photos of people, I want their best features to be noticed. To pull that off, I have to have the camera at the right angle to show the correct perspective bringing out those best features. Changing the angle in a landscape shot can bring more beauty out of an area. In life, perspective matters a lot, and I feel like we ignore other people’s perspectives because we are so hyper-focused on our own. In our minds, we allow our perspective to be the dominant perspective. Just like in photography, we have to change the angle to see a different view.

One thing that helps me see different perspectives is taking walks. I have a couple of rules while I am out. One, no phones on the walk. I bring my phone with me just in case there is an emergency, but I don’t look at it. Two, I use this time as one of my ways to reset my focus. Taking time to reset allows me to consider a variety of perspectives. I even bring my camera with me while on my walks. I love taking photos, and I bring my camera with me sometimes. This helps me capture different perspectives from my neighborhood. These photos that I have posted are from one of my walks during the evening.
