How It Started, How It Paused

“Whenever you do a thing, act as if all the world were watching.” – Thomas Jefferson

Anytime I reflect on 2020, it feels like an era from a lifetime ago. So much changed that year. Everything that happened that year feels so foreign. I look back at that time and wonder what were we thinking as a society. One thing that changed for me that year was how I kept in shape. I used to go to the YMCA near my house two to three times a week. Sometimes I would meet my dad there. I remember walking the track with him in February of 2020. We were talking about everything happening with Covid in China. Everything that was happening there felt so far away. All of the shutting down and closing of businesses didn’t seem possible here in the United States. Schools closing didn’t seem possible here either. I still think back to that conversation and how wrong I was about that. That was one of the last times I worked out at that gym. It closed while the pandemic raged through the United States. I knew I needed to stay in shape, so I started to ride my bike around Charlotte.

I still enjoy riding my bike after all this time. I haven’t been in a while because I have been more focused on strength training. I changed my fitness focus earlier this year because I wanted to get my health on track. Riding my bike is healthy, but I have been more focused on weight lifting. The last time I rode my bike was right before we left for Alaska back in July. I rode my bike around Uptown Charlotte. I went to one of my favorite parks in Uptown, Marshall Park. Marshall Park has some great views, and you can capture some good photos of Uptown Charlotte. I will get back to riding again when it gets warm next spring, if not sooner.
