Rafting

“‘Tis not enough to help the feeble up, but to support them after.” – William Shakespeare

Otters are amazing creators. When I am teaching my 5th graders about ecosystems, I show them a video of a robot river otter. Scientist built the robot otter to learn more about them in the wild. Otters are very social creatures towards one another, and they depend on one another for survival. The robot otter blended in with the river otter community. Scientists observed how otters show friendliness towards one another. They are such fun creators to watch and observe.

One of my favorite parts of our trip to Alaska is the wildlife tour we took around the Sitka Sound. Just being out in the water was an amazing experience, but what we saw made it even better. It was overcast day with a little bit of rain coming in. While the sun didn’t come out at all, it was still a beautiful day. It made taking photos while we there difficult. Whole going through the photos I captured while here, I had to pass on some of them. I still was able to capture some amazing shots. One of my favorite parts of this journey is when we saw a group of Sea Otters. They were in a group together called a raft. A raft is when a community of sea otters joins hands together and floats. This allows them to rest, stay warm, and protect each other from predators.
