Walk to Sunset

“Curiosity will conquer fear even more than bravery will.”- James Stephens

Being home for the last few weekends was not how I was expecting my 2026 to start. I knew it was going to be cold. This year, the cold brought all forms of winter precipitation with it. From sleet to snow, we saw it all this winter. Both events closed schools for multiple days. Both events caused crazy runs at the grocery store. Those weeks were off the chain. One thing I did get to enjoy during this time was my photography. Could have I driven somewhere during that time, yes, but I didn’t want to. I watched enough people get stuck in the snow. They were right in front of my house. I knew that it wasn’t worth it. Two of my vehicles would have done just fine in the snow. However, I didn’t want a fateful encounter with someone who shouldn’t be driving their car in the snow. Instead, I took walks around my neighborhood, and I brought my camera with me. I captured photos of the snow filled landscapes because who knows when it will snow like this again.

During one of my snow walks, I did some street photography around my neighborhood. I hadn’t done this in a while, and I enjoy capturing photos of random people. While the places I walk always look the same, the people you see are always different. I wanted to see how everyone was faring in the snow. I walked over to a coffee shop about a half a mile from my house. I grabbed a coffee while I was there to get a quick warm up. I captured photos of every one who was out walking their dogs or just trying to get some time outside. After getting some shots, I put my camera away, and started to head back to the house. I made it back to my house right at sunset. When I walked up to a neighbors house, I could see the sun starting to set right over their yard. While it wasn’t the perfect landscape with all the construction in the background, it was still a great golden hour. I grabbed my camera, and snapped some shots of it before heading back to the house.
