Behind the Granary

“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” – E. M. Forster

Great places have great views around every corner. It doesn’t matter where you step, you will always find a great view or place to capture a photo. The trick to finding great views in random places is being bold to step out and see them. Too often when visiting places we try to hard to stay on the beaten path. The beaten path is great, but stepping off it is when exploring happens. Some of my favorite photos throughout the years are from when I just started wondering around at some location. It those moments when photography for me is the most fun. There is no pressure and no crowds. Just me, my camera, and a great scene right in front me.

The family and I took a trip to Northeast Georgia during spring break. We spent most of our time in Helen, Georgia. We walked around the main strip the day before, and the next day we took a trip to Tallulah Gorge. On the way to the gorge we stopped some fun places. One of the first places we stopped was the Nora Mill Granary Grist Mill. Established in 1876 in Helen, Georgia, the Nora Mill Granary is a historic, water-powered grist mill on the Chattahoochee River that produces stone-ground grits, cornmeal, and flour using 1,500-pound French Burr Mill Stones. You can watch the granary in action while you are at the store. You can the Chattahoochee River from the back porch of the store. Here are the photos that I captured of it from the back of the store.
