Moving On

“Change is the end result of all true learning.” – Leo Buscaglia

A lot of changes are coming my way this year. From moving to a new house to teaching at a different school, things will be a lot different next school year. This summer my focus has been on getting ready for this massive move we have coming up. From packing all of our stuff to getting rid of the stuff we haven’t used in years, there is a lot to do. While I am packing everything up, I am realizing that I don’t like moving. In fact, when we moved into our house 14 years ago from Kentucky, I didn’t want to move ever again. Here we are. It is time for us to move, but it doesn’t mean I have to like the process. I know I will enjoy the end result, but I am not a fan of how we get there.

One part of my summer that I am looking forward to is travel. We did carve out some time for fun this summer, and I am looking forward to it. My main highlight of last summer was when we took a cruise around the Inside Passage of Alaska. We visited several amazing places and saw things we had never seen before. One of my favorite stops was at the Hubbard Glacier. Hubbard Glacier is North America’s largest tidewater glacier. It measures 76 miles long. It is known for its “galloping” advance, which is unlike most receding glaciers. It is named after Gardiner Hubbard, the first president of the National Geographic Society. The glacier is distinguished by its towering face. This face is 600 feet tall at the terminal face, with 250 feet below the waterline.
