While I was visiting Europe, something that always caught my eye was the castles. What caught my eye about them was how they looked in the distance with everything in front of them. I wonder what someone saw when they first saw that large castle in the distance. I often tried to imagine myself walking the same path hundreds of years ago. I tried to angle my camera to see how it might have looked to someone living back then. At times, it seemed like nature and other monuments were serving as curtains to what lay ahead. When I approached a castle in the distance, it seemed as if the curtains were pulled back and I could see what was ahead.
One of our favorite stops while we were in Europe was visiting Edinburgh, Scotland. We didn’t have any paid tours planned for that day. We asked the people at the information desk at the port, and we took the train to the base of the Royal Mile. This is the path that runs between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. We focused most of our time around the base of Edinburgh Castle. After we saw the fountain, we walked around The Parish Church of St Cuthbert. Around this church are several historic headstones. One of my favorite shots of our visit to Edinburgh was the first one, where I captured a shot of the headstones with Edinburgh Castle in the background. The other shots are some others that I like from that same day.
