“I love the sounds and the power of pounding water, whether it is the waves or a waterfall.” – Mike May

Who doesn’t love the sound of a waterfall? People love the sounds of waterfalls so much that they make sound tracks for you to listen to at any time. The sound of a waterfall has the ability to give one a feeling of peace that is hard to find elsewhere. The irony of the sound of a waterfall bringing peace is that it is a mighty force of nature. Its raw power carves out mountains and valleys. It’s still a sound that can bring calm. It’s like that one song you have on repeat, it doesn’t matter how many times you hear it, you love it. I know when I am hiking towards a waterfall for the first time, I get excited as I get closer to it. I start to hear it in the distance. The closer I get, the louder its sound fills my ear. As I journey closer, I have anticipation of how great it is going to be. Even if I have visited a waterfall before, I still get excited because every visit is different.

I took these shots when we visited Catawba Falls last year. When I looked up this place online it said it was only a mile and a half to get to the falls. When I saw that I didn’t think it was that bad because I normally walk almost 8 miles a day at work anyways. I didn’t realize there was a difference between a mile teaching and a mile in the mountains. It was 1 mile and a half straight uphill. As we were walking up, my wife and daughter decided they had enough, and turned around and went back to the car. My son and I kept going. When we did arrive, we were able to enjoy this beautiful view and take it in for a moment.
