Times Are Changing

“Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.” – Anne Frank

I am amazed at how different things are in Charlotte, North Carolina since I moved here. I remember when I needed to go to the grocery store and had to drive forever to get to one. It used to be the only thing close to us was a Family Dollar. Now we have different restaurants, retail, and coffee shops within walking distance from our house. The bad part about that is that anything old in the area is coming down. From old homes to old trees, the quest for progress brings down anything with a history. We have lost some neighbors over the years. The times are changing where we are.

I captured these photos last summer. Our neighbor’s house was sold, and the developer decided to tear it down. I stood out with my camera throughout the day as it came down. To me, these photos are a sign of how much things are changing in my neighborhood. Ever since 2020, everyone wants to move where we are.

  1. I experience the sadness in the decrepit and decaying man made things of days gone by. It gives me feelings that are regretful actually to see things that were once full of life die and lose their shine. Yet I’m also so drawn to them. I would have been like you, taking pictures.
