More Than Expected

“Avoid popularity; it has many snares, and no real benefit.” – William Penn

Whenever my wife and I plan a trip, there is always a destination we have in mind. We are usually looking forward to seeing one particular place or thing. It’s not that we are disappointed in what we see. We often see more that we expected too. That’s the best part. There is always some great surprise that happens while visiting somewhere new. We have gone to places and been able to try out a great new coffee shop. I remember when my son and I visited Mayan Ruins years ago. We saw a monkey running across the grounds. The tour guide said they see them all the time, like squirrels in America. But for us, we will never forget seeing that little guy run around everywhere. I remember when we had a beach day at Roatan Island in Honduras. I tried snorkeling out for the first time, and I found out that I loved it. You never know what you will see when you go somewhere.

When we visited Sitka, Alaska last year, our goal was to go whale watching. While we were out we with the whales, we saw so much more. We sea otters floating together. They do this to protect each other from predators who would try to attach them. We saw bald eagles flying overhead. We saw incredible views of the state called the last frontier. That name fits. I have never been to place where you see nothing but beautiful landscapes for miles. From beautiful views to incredible wildlife, Sitka, Alaska is an amazing place.
