Seeing the Moment

“A rebirth out of spiritual adversity causes us to become new creatures.” – James E. Faust

I think what got me into street photography is the thrill of the hunt. I don’t mean that I go out and hunt people. Maybe I do, because people are my focus when I am out sometimes. Maybe it isn’t hunting people as much as it is hunting moments. When I am out with my camera, I am looking to freeze moments in time. I am trying to freeze a moment that might not ever happen again. Sometimes these moments look mundane. We never know the entire story of the moment. What was going on in their minds when the photo was taken? Did they have a destination in mind while they were walking? More often than not, what were they looking at on their phones? Half the time I see people they are looking at their phones. I know I am guilty of this too, but we need to do a better job of being in the moment. That’s why I love to capture moments because the details matter.

Looking back at these photos I captured in Victoria, Canada, I am reminded of what the weather was like that day. What reminded me of it was the way everyone was dressed. I have no idea what I wore that day. I must look at the photos I captured of myself that day. It’s crazy how many of the details we forget. That’s why I photograph everything I can while I am out. This way, when I look back I can remember all of the details. Looking back at these photos reminds me of what a great day it was. From seeing the main parliament building to watching all of the people walk around town. These are just a few of the photos I captured while walking around Victoria.
