Another World

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” – Heraclitus

Some of my favorite places to photograph are places that feel like I have been taken somewhere else. When you walk in, you feel like it is somewhere different from where you just came from. It feels like you have walked into another world. It’s like the drive feels completely different than the destination. It reminds me of when it snowed last winter in Charlotte. While I was walking around, it didn’t even feel like we were in our neighborhood. Everything was covered in a sheet of white. It was crazy how we had that feeling like we were somewhere else. A great museum has that feeling. You walk in, and being surrounded by history takes you to another place. It’s moments like this when my camera is the most active.

This year, I had the opportunity to go to the Masters. For those of you who are not into golf, the Masters is one of the four major golf tournaments that happens every year. Every year it is at the same course, and being able to go is an amazing experience. I was fortunate enough to win the lottery in order to go to the practice rounds. Going feels like a new world. You cannot bring your cell phone to the Masters. If you get caught, you are banned for life. They will let you bring your camera to the practice rounds, but there are rules about it. You cannot take video, and your lens has to be a certain length. Here are a few photos of the course that I was able to capture that day. I was able to take some shots as players skipped their golf balls across the water on the No. 16 hole (Redbud) at Augusta National during the Masters. This tradition takes place specifically during the practice rounds, where players intentionally hit their tee shots into the pond, aiming to skip them onto the green. All in all, it was a great experience.
