Obligations

“You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.” – Babe Ruth

For some reason today, we want the rewards without the obligations that come with them. We want to be in charge, but we do not want the responsibilities that are a part of leading. We want to be at the top, without putting in the work to get there. I see this with my 5th graders all the time. They want good grades, but they don’t want to put in the work to get those grades. One of the things I teach my students is that in order to get the reward, you have to put in the work daily. I remind them that their obligation is to do their best every day in order to see success. I am hoping these lessons follow them as they get older. They realize that hard work is one of the keys to living a productive life.

Obligations can also come when we travel to different places and are how we get the full enjoyment of them. When you visit Augusta National during the Masters, there are some rules you have to follow. One is you have to dress appropriately: golf shirt, nice shorts, and presentable shoes. Since it was the practice round, I was able to bring my camera and take photos. You cannot bring your cell phone into the Masters. They are strict about that. If you get caught with your phone, you can never buy tickets again. They do not like any distractions on the course. There are phones that you can use to call people while you are there. Just hope you remember the number because you won’t have your cell phone on you. Since I just got back in town yesterday, I haven’t had the chance to go through all of the photos I captured. Here are a few that I captured that day. From the food to the course, it was a great day.
