It Goes On

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” – Robert Frost

Life and rivers have a lot of things in common. Where they go shapes who they are. Rivers have a path they go down. Their path defines who they are and what boundaries they have. Rivers also have obstacles that get in their way or even change their paths. Some of these obstacles are man-made, and others just happen. One thing that life and a river share is that it goes on. When it feels like life is stopping, it still has a way to keep going. I remember during some of the more difficult seasons of my life, while I wanted life to stop so I could process, it didn’t. I still had the same responsibilities and goals I wanted to meet. Like rivers, life doesn’t stop. Sometimes, like rivers, we have to go with the flow.

During spring break, my family and I took a trip around Northeast Georgia. This was a familiar place for us because my wife and I graduated from college in this region. Going back to this area filled us with lots of memories. We loved coming back here. One of our favorite areas to visit was Tallulah Gorge. We didn’t visit the park often because we were poor college students. We typically checked out the gorge from free view areas. One of our favorite viewing areas had a small general store where we would sit on the porch and drink a Coke from a glass bottle. It was closed the last time we went, and we were glad to see it open again. I captured these shots from the state park that has some of the gorge’s best features, a picnic area set aside by the power company, and from that small general store my wife and I used to visit.
