Find Your Advantages

“The key is working hard to recognize the advantages we might have.” – G. Shawn Hunter

Too often we define hard work as just continuously working all the time. For many, the act of being busy means we work hard. If we are constantly working, that means we are working hard. As a teacher, I see people who are busy all the time. Some of the things they are busy with make me wonder about the true value of those actions. I used to think this way. I believed if I stayed up all night working, my lessons would be perfect the next day. What I failed to realize is that I wasn’t focusing on what mattered, and I was spending too much time doing work that didn’t need to be done. I started to think about the things I was good at and then began to put more of my energy there. If I wasn’t good at something, I did my best to turn it into an advantage. Then I learned how to prioritize what’s important.

Last spring, I had the opportunity to go to the Masters golf tournament during the practice rounds. For those of you who are not golf enthusiasts, the Masters happens once a year and is considered one of the major golf tournaments each year. There are a lot of rules when going to the Masters. One of them is that you cannot bring your cell phone onto the property. You either have to check it in at the gate or leave it in your car. You can bring a camera during the practice rounds. They have rules about the length of the lens and the sounds it makes. We had a great time walking around, watching some of the golfers, and enjoying the food they had to offer. Here are a few shots that I captured while I was there. I took over 200 just to make sure I got some good ones.
