The Market

“Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection.” – Lawrence Durrell

There are always places that you hear about and think that you will get to check out one day. One of those places for me was Pike Place Market. I am going to confess, the first time I heard about Pike Place was because it was the name of a blend of coffee that Starbucks sells. I am sure people from the Seattle area are cringing right now reading this, but hear me out, is there a worse way to find out about somewhere? I heard about Pike Place, and I wanted to visit, but Seattle is a long way from Charlotte. But Seattle became a destination when we planned our cruise to Alaska last year. It turns out our port was Seattle, and we planned it so that we could spend at least a day there after we got back from our cruise.

Pike Place Market was something else. It was an amazing space to see, and a lot of fun to walk around. What was even more fun for me was the opportunity to take my camera out and get some great photos. I had my camera in my hand the entire time while we walked around. This was one of those moments I was glad that I had been practicing street photography while in Charlotte. I was able to take those skills and put them to work here at the Pike Place Market. It was an amazing place to see, from random eclectic shops to fun bookstores. Here are a few of the black and white shots I captured while I was there.
