Ideal Dining Experience

“If you want a thing done well, do it yourself.” – Napoleon Bonaparte

Where do you prefer to eat? This is something I have been asking myself lately as I have been in the process of moving. While my kids could eat out every day, I am not as much of a fan of it. For one, it’s expensive. It costs way too much to eat out. Two, it’s difficult to eat healthy while eating out. I don’t want to eat salad all the time. Third, most times I grab food to go, the order is wrong. I cannot count the number of times in the last week where there was either a missing entree or parts of the order not in the bag. It doesn’t matter where I eat, or where I get it from, I have to take 5 minutes before I leave the restaurant to make sure everything is there. For me, my preferred dining experience is eating at home. I love to cook, and I enjoy putting meals together. It seems like when I cook, we have more time to eat at home and enjoy the meal together.

What caused me to think about how I dine was looking at these photos I captured while I was in Scotland. One of my favorite parts of when we visited Europe was taking the tour of Dunrobin Castle. The exterior of the castle is beautiful. The inside is fascinating. Inside, you can see how the nobility lived during that time. These shots of the dining room show what a typical table would look like inside the castle at that time. Could you eat in a dining room like this?
