Stop for a Second

“The greatest remedy for anger is delay.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

I am currently reading a book about human behavior. I just finished the section where the author discusses stress. He said that when we are stressed, we typically don’t make the best decisions. This is because our brain is in overdrive trying to process what is causing us to be stressed. One lesson we can learn from that is we should never make big decisions while stressed. Our brains operate less efficiently when we are stressed. We should take a moment and pause before making any changes. It might feel good in the moment to make a big change, but it rarely works out. If we feel the need to make a big decision while stressed, stop and wait before you make the change.

Sometimes the best way to stop for a second is to step outside. I usually do this by taking a walk in the afternoon or riding my bike sometime during the week. If it is too hot, I settle for the treadmill at the gym. Movement goes a long way in stress prevention. Another way I work on my stress levels is with my photography. Getting out and taking photos is my way of expressing myself. I captured these photos while riding my bike through Uptown Charlotte.
