“The future starts today, not tomorrow.” – Pope John Paul II

Have you ever been somewhere that was once part of a famous news story or event? It is one thing to see that location on TV, but another to see it in person. One thing I enjoy when watching football is when the sports broadcast of the Carolina Panthers comes back from commercial and they show video of different parts of town. When they show that part of town, I realize that I have been there before, and I know exactly where they are. It is like seeing the place you work be part of a major news story. It is weird when you see something that is a normal part of your life become a setting for a major event.

This summer, I had the opportunity to visit Paris, France, and see many of the amazing places there. The highlight of our visit was a river cruise along the Seine River. For most of the cruise, I stood in the back of the boat with my camera in hand, snapping as many photos as possible. One of the sights that caught my eye was the Notre-Dame Cathedral. I remember seeing the news when a fire broke out in it. On April 15, 2019, a devastating fire broke out beneath the roof of the cathedral. The blaze quickly engulfed the cathedral’s iconic spire and much of its roof, burning through the night. Firefighters worked tirelessly and successfully saved the main structure, including the bell towers and rose windows. It was great to see how much of the building they have been able to restore after the devastation. These are the shots of the cathedral I captured right from the window.
