Goodbye

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” – Les Brown

You never realize what you have lost until it is gone. Yesterday, we watched our old house being torn down. We moved over the summer. Like many homes in certain Charlotte neighborhoods, a developer will come in and offer someone money for their home. Then they tear it down and put a duplex in its place. We knew one day our neighbor would let us know that our house was coming down. We just didn’t think it would be this soon. Typically in our neighborhood, a property would be purchased and they would tear down the old house in a month. We have barely been gone a month. I guess they are ready to get the next thing up there.

When I heard they were tearing down our old house yesterday, I brought my camera with me to capture some photos of it. While I was editing the photos last night, I saw details of the house that brought back so many memories. I see the water heater in the attic. I remember when it started to leak downstairs because one of the pipes to it had burst. I see the door to the old pantry. It was small, and we always had it filled with food. I see the kitchen window that I used to look out of while I had something on the grill. I see the green container I left in the attic. I accidentally left the window to the attic open once, and I used that container to catch the excess water. I see where our living room used to sit, and I think about how my kids grew up in that living room. So many memories in that house. It is sad to see the place where those memories happened go, but I am glad that I have them.
