“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

There are some things that don’t happen every month or every week. They only happen once a year. Azelas only bloom once a year. During the summer, they look like any other green bush. They are great for taking up space in a yard and are easy to maintain. During the winter, they are just sticks with a stem. Nothing to them. They look like they might not come back. However, every spring, they do nothing short of amazement with their blooms. We have a few of them in our front yard in front of our house. Every year, they fill our front yard with an incredible array of blooms. The catch is, it only happens once a year. Once a year, they fill our yard with blooms. I try to get my camera out as often as I can to capture them because soon they will be gone until next year.

How often do we appreciate things that only happen once a year? Do we take the day and celebrate, or do we just assume it will happen again next year? Don’t let once a year things go by without appreciating them. From birthdays to holidays, don’t let the daily grind let you forget the importance of a day. So much can happen in a year, and you don’t want to waste time on something else that happens daily. If it happens once a year, take the time to enjoy the moment with those who matter to you.
