Memorable Bike Ride

“Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued.” – Socrates

One of my favorite things to do is ride my bike around Charlotte. I live close to the light rail trail, so it is easy for me to get to Uptown. This is my favorite way to clear my mind. It’s just me and my bike. While I am out, I reflect on what’s happening and what is coming up in the future. It’s important that we set aside time to make sure that we are disconnected from the world. There are advantages to being connected, but sometimes we need a moment where we are separated from the world around us. These moments of being unplugged are beneficial.

I remember a few summers ago, I was riding my bike around Uptown. I wanted to go further, but the air quality that day was unforgiving. There were some fires to the west of us, and the winds had blown all of the smoke to our area. I remember starting to circle back home, and I ended up at this alley in Uptown filled with murals. It’s called Lumenous Lane. Several artists took this old alleyway and made it their canvas. These beautiful images turned an old alley into a beautiful place.
