Pike in Black and White

“The greatest remedy for anger is delay.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

It’s funny when we visit somewhere and think we know what something is called. When you get there, you find out you’ve been saying it wrong all this time. This is a way that locals can tell if you are from an area or not. Sometimes we mispronounce it. Other times we add letters to the end of it. In our minds, we think we are saying it correctly. Later, we find out that we were off the entire time. Sometimes I don’t find out I am saying a city wrong until I start writing about the photos I took of it later. When we travel, we have to be willing to learn how someone says its name. We want to respect the people’s city and place that we are visiting. There are times where that requires some correction.

When I visited Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, I thought it was called “Pikes.” I was corrected when I looked at the photos of the sign and realized it was just “Pike.” I doubt I am the only one that does this, but I want to make sure I get it right. These are some of the shots I captured of the inside and outside of Pike Place Market in black and white. I feel like the monochromatic look brings out the details of the photos. I don’t think color is a bad thing, but it sometimes distracts us from the details of the shot.
