Always Learning

“You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward.” – Conrad Hall

A common misconception about learning is that it only happens in the classroom. At least, that is what my 5th graders think, and it is something they have come to understand over the years. One thing I try to teach them while they are in the classroom is that learning can happen anywhere. I stress to them that one of the best ways to learn outside of school is by reading a good book. In fact, that is how I keep learning as an adult. The older I get, the more I realize there is a lot I do not know. In order to know more, I have to put myself in a position to learn. From getting the right perspective about Christopher Columbus to understanding more about being a better leader, I get that from reading. Everything I read is not all about gaining knowledge; I do read graphic novels for fun, too. Learning is something that has to continue, and we have to grow more to be able to do more.

One place that taught me a little bit about European history last summer was Dunrobin Castle. This was one of the most amazing places I have ever been. We started our tour inside and looked at how people lived in the castle. Then we toured the outside, which was truly spectacular. The gardens around the castle are a sight to be seen and were by far one of my favorite parts of our trip to Europe.
